The spectrum of Misonix Incorporated's innovative therapeutic ultrasound capabilities has expanded to ultrasonic devices for the hearing impaired. Hearing Innovations, a wholly owned subsidiary of Misonix, has taken tinnitus relief to a new level for both the tinnitus sufferer and healthcare practitioner with its patented HiSonic®-TRD device.

Up until now, the tinnitus suffer was limited to utilizing frequency masking devices to attempt to offer relief and habituation therapy, tinnitus retraining therapy and attempts to teach an individual to cope with their tinnitus. For some individuals, frequency-masking devices provide relief as well as drawbacks. The drawbacks can include interference with the perception of external sounds, constant cleaning and maintenance and the need for two devices for bilateral tinnitus offering only one masking noise.

The American Tinnitus Association estimates that there are 12 million severe tinnitus sufferers in the United States. It is estimated that less than one percent (1%) have been treated for their condition and fewer still have effective relief. So why aren't more treatment therapies prescribed by health care practioners? Medical doctors, ENT's and audiologists do not completely understand the symptoms of tinnitus nor have they endorsed any current therapy as effective. Unfortunately, this leads to not effectively treating tinnitus, and sadly the common response from the medical community is "Learn to cope with your tinnitus".

Hearing Innovations' HiSonic-TRD delivers low levels of ultrasound through bone conduction, and clinical studies have demonstrated clinically significant long-term relief and a residual inhibition effect have occurred in several subjects. Residual inhibition effect is best described as the temporary disappearance of tinnitus after use of the device.

Relief with the HiSonic-TRD is and because of the absence of a device from the ear canal, the HiSonic-TRD does not interfere with the perception of external sounds. The HiSonic-TRD offers two distinct masking noises, is easy to use and is affordable when compared to frequency masking devices and costs less than habituation therapy.

Hearing Innovations believes that the HiSonic-TRD will be promoted and widely endorsed as the treatment modality of choice, by both tinnitus sufferers and healthcare practitioners alike.
